AP Statistics
Course description: The AP Statistics course is designed to introduce students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. Students are exposed to four broad conceptual themes: Exploring Data – describing patterns and departures from patterns; Sampling and Experimentation – planning and conducting a study; Anticipating Patterns – exploring random phenomena using probability and simulation; and Statistical Inference – estimating population parameters and testing hypotheses. Teacher: Dan Meade, Skowhegan HS (retired). Dan has worked as a development engineer designing and perfecting fiber optic cables, and he has also taught mathematics and physics in both private and public secondary schools in Massachusetts and Maine. He is currently living in Norridgewock and teaching statistics and math as an adjunct professor at Husson University.
Suggested student preparation: The AP Statistics course is an excellent option for any secondary school student who has successfully completed a second-year course in algebra and who possesses sufficient mathematical maturity and quantitative reasoning ability.
