Course description: The Calculus AB course is primarily concerned with developing the students’ understanding of the concepts of calculus and providing experience with its methods and applications. The course emphasizes a multirepresentational approach to calculus, with concepts, results, and problems being expressed graphically, numerically, analytically, and verbally. Teacher: Michael Cowing, Bucksport HS. Michael teaches mathematics at Bucksport High School. He has taught AP Calculus and AP Statistics for thirteen years, and has participated in the AP4All program for three years as the Calculus AB instructor. Before that, he taught AP courses over distance to several schools around the state via the ATM videoconferencing network. Michael is also the Head Coach of the Bucksport High School varsity baseball team.

Suggested student preparation: Before studying AP Calculus AB, students should complete four years of secondary mathematics designed for college-bound students: courses in which they study algebra, geometry, trigonometry, analytic geometry, and elementary functions.
