2009-2010 AP4ALL Courses: AP Physics B

AP Physics B

Course Information
  Course Title: AP Physics B

Course Description:      The AP Physics B course provides a systematic introduction to the main principles of physics and emphasizes the development of conceptual understanding and problem-solving ability using algebra and trigonometry, but rarely calculus. The course includes topics in both classical and modern physics, including Newtonian mechanics, fluid mechanics and thermal physics, electricity and magnetism, waves and optics, and atomic and nuclear physics.

  Teacher: Truax McFarland

  Suggested Student
Preparation:
It is strongly recommended that students enroll in AP Physics B as a second-year physics courses. A first-year physics course aimed at developing a thorough understanding of important physical principles and that permits students to explore concepts in the laboratory provides a richer experience in the process of science and better prepares them for the more analytical approaches taken in the AP course. A knowledge of algebra and basic trigonometry is required for the course; the basic ideas of calculus may be introduced in connection with physical concepts, such as acceleration and work.
